Lactation Policy

APA offers lactation services from our nurse practitioner, Meg Guimond. As both a pediatric nurse practitioner and an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), Meg is able to serve both the medical and lactation needs of your baby. By providing lactation and primary care, your baby will receive coordinated medical and lactation care during the same visit. Meg is also able to communicate her recommendations directly to your primary care physician to help provide coordinated care.

Most lactation consultants offer their services on a cash-only basis. You pay out of pocket and you are given a receipt to submit to medical insurance. Here at APA, however, we bill these services to your baby’s medical insurance. Because our lactation visits are part of your baby’s medical care, we bill these as a routine “office visit,” just like our practice bills for other pediatric problems. This visit may have a copay and may be subject to your baby’s deductible or coinsurance.

The mother’s personal lactation benefits will not be billed by ArlingtonPediatric Associates as we are pediatric providers.

We will ask you to sign the following consent form when you book your first lactation visit with us to ensure you understand this billing policy:

Vaccine Policy

Arlington Pediatric Associates wants to maintain a safe environment where our families can receive exceptional medical care compliant with the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Centers for Disease Control (CDC). We believe that vaccines are safe, effective and save lives. We will not accept new patients who do not plan to immunize their children. Existing patients who are not adequately vaccinated are asked to schedule an appointment with their primary care provider to work together to formulate a plan to immunize their children. This is because not vaccinating puts your child and other children at unnecessary risk for illness, disability and even death.

Choosing not to vaccinate or to under-vaccinate puts your child at risk and puts our young and chronically ill children who are unable to receive the vaccines due to medical contraindications at risk. Vaccination of the majority of the population leads to herd immunity, where the immunization of most leads to greater protection for all.

This policy is not intended to scare or coerce any family but rather to emphasize the importance of vaccinations. Arlington Pediatrics recognizes that the choice to vaccinate may be very personal for some parents. We commit to doing everything we can to help you understand that vaccinating according to our schedule is the safest thing for your child and our community. Please discuss any concerns you have with your pediatrician.

We believe strongly that vaccines are effective in preventing serious illness and saving lives, and we are dedicated to preventing illness for our families. We believe that the vaccines we provide are safe and that all children should receive all of the recommended vaccines published by the American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control. The recommended vaccines and schedule are the result of many years of scientific research.

Every pediatrician at Arlington Pediatrics has vaccinated their own children fully and on time, following the schedule created by the AAP and CDC. We passionately believe that vaccinating children in a timely manner is the best choice for all children. Thank you for taking the time to read this policy and please discuss any concerns you may have with any of our pediatricians.

Policy Regarding Children Whose Parents are Separated or Divorced

Many of our patients are children whose parents are either separated or divorced. Our primary concern for these children is to promote their health and well-being. In such situations, we are happy to work with either or both parents to make sure the child's healthcare needs are met.

When a minor child visits our office accompanied by either parent, we will assume that parent has full legal custody and authority to make medical decisions for the child, unless we are instructed otherwise, in writing, by a legal authority.

We need to depend on the child's parents to communicate clearly with each other about the child's health status and healthcare plans. Our general approach is to communicate our medical assessments and recommendations with the parent who accompanies the child to the office, or with the parent who contacts us by telephone or electronic communication.

We cannot take the responsibility of contacting each parent separately every time we see the child in the office or communicate with either of the parents. We are, however, happy to receive inquiries about the child's health from either parent at any time.

We cannot mediate financial disputes between the two parents. When children visit our office, we hold the accompanying parent or guardian responsible for any payments required. Any disputes about reimbursement for medical expenses need to be settled between the parents privately.
